Cosmetic label material should be selected around the product, bottle surface, use environment and printing requirement. A label that looks attractive on a design screen may behave differently when it is applied to a small serum bottle, a curved cream jar, a squeezable shampoo bottle or a transparent perfume container.
For cosmetic packaging, material, adhesive, release liner, label dimensions and finishing method need to work as one construction. This guide explains the main selection factors and the information buyers should prepare before requesting a label material or printed-label quotation.

The same cosmetic category can use very different packaging. Bottle material, diameter, curvature, squeezability and the available label area should be reviewed before choosing the facestock.
Product or package | Typical label considerations |
Serum and lotion bottles | Small label area, fine text, clear or high-opacity graphics, bottle curvature and white-ink requirements. |
Cream jars and body-lotion bottles | Round containers, larger label coverage, edge lifting and repeated hand contact. |
Shampoo, body wash and hand soap | Humidity, water exposure, squeezing, friction and product residue. |
Perfume and essential-oil bottles | Clear appearance, metallic effects, premium finish, glass surface and contact with oils or alcohol. |
Tubes and flexible PE/PP bottles | Container movement, film flexibility, adhesive choice and label dimensions. |
If the label size has not been confirmed, provide a bottle photograph, container material, diameter, available label height and preferred application area. A physical paper mock-up or sample can help check the real bottle before final production.
Material direction | Cosmetic-packaging use | Important checks |
Clear PET | Transparent glass or plastic bottles and a clean no-label-look presentation. | Film thickness, stiffness, adhesive clarity and white ink. |
Clear BOPP or PP | Transparent packaging and general product identification. | Printing process, film clarity, bottle shape and adhesive. |
White BOPP or PP | Shampoo, skincare, body wash and other products requiring stronger graphic opacity. | Bottle flexibility, colour appearance and use environment. |
Matte BOPP or matte PET | Skincare, serum and cream packaging with a soft, low-glare appearance. | Surface finish, ink appearance and handling. |
Silver PET or metallic material | Perfume, premium skincare and packaging requiring a metallic visual effect. | Which areas remain metallic and which require opaque printing. |
Paper label stock | Natural, handmade or textured packaging concepts in relatively dry conditions. | Moisture, oil, abrasion and any protective surface treatment. |
Alliance Paper's documented material ranges include BOPP from 28 to 80 microns, PET from 25 to 100 microns, PE from 30 to 100 microns and PVC from 50 to 150 microns. Thickness should be selected together with flexibility, printing, converting and container shape.
BOPP vs PET vs PVC vs PE label material comparison
paper vs film label materials for cosmetic packaging
Glass, PET, PE, PP and flexible tubes do not provide identical bonding conditions. A smooth glass surface may be straightforward, while a low-surface-energy plastic, a tight curve or a squeezable bottle can place greater stress on the label edges.
For round or curved cosmetic bottles, film flexibility, label dimensions and adhesive should be evaluated together. An adhesive described as stronger is not automatically the correct option for every bottle construction.
clear label film for curved bottles
Cosmetic labels often combine material appearance with one or two finishing effects. The aim is to support the brand design without making a small label visually crowded.
Transparent label artwork should identify the clear areas, white-ink areas and any metallic or special-finishing layers. Bottle colour and product colour can influence how the printed label appears after application.
clear label material selection guide
A 30 ml serum bottle does not have one universal label size. Two bottles with the same volume may have different shoulders, diameters and usable label areas. Decide whether the product uses a front label, front-and-back labels or a wraparound label.
Small test quantities or samples can be used to review application appearance before confirming a larger production requirement.
self-adhesive label materials for cosmetic bottle labels
Complete application information helps the material supplier and converter discuss a more suitable facestock, adhesive, liner, roll format and printing approach.
Clear PET, BOPP or another transparent film may be considered. The final selection depends on bottle material, curvature, required stiffness, printing and adhesive appearance.
White ink creates an opaque base under selected graphics so that light colours and text remain visible against the bottle and product.
Film materials such as white or clear BOPP, PP or PE may be evaluated according to bottle flexibility, humidity, friction and printing requirements.
Review film flexibility, label size, corner shape, bottle curvature, surface cleanliness, adhesive and application conditions together.
Provide the applicator requirements, roll width, core, outside diameter, label gap, winding direction and dispensing direction.
Cosmetic label material selection should begin with the real product and bottle, not only the desired appearance. A suitable construction needs to support the container shape, use environment, printing design, converting method and application process.
